Tessa’s eyes sparkled as they entered the restaurant and slipped off their shoes at the door. A silent hostess led them to the back room where Kent and Lisa were seated cross-legged on the floor beside the low table. The ambience was incredible, decorated with vibrant colors and cultural artifacts. It was far from the only Thai restaurant in the city, but it was already her favorite.

Jordan smiled. Tessa’s delight at experiencing anything new was contagious, and although jealousy had prompted him to invite himself, he was glad he was there to witness her enjoyment. He liked spending time with Tessa, and maybe having other people there would keep his hormones in check. It was a stretch, he knew, but worth a try.

One hour, a full stomach, and two cocktails later, Tessa was having a change of heart regarding her earlier revelation. Wasn’t it natural for her to feel jealous? It didn’t mean anything. It was just jealousy, just a thought. She sat back and surveyed Jordan as he carried on a conversation with their companions. Handsome, smart, charming, and a close friend—all were ideal qualities. Her fingers absently played with a curl dangling past her shoulder and her gaze dropped to his lips. His lips were beautiful, and now she knew first-hand how they felt, how they could make her feel. Goosebumps raised along her spine as her gaze blazed a path from his lips along his strong, etched jawline to the cords in his neck. She shouldn’t have had that second drink. The pulse that had drawn her that fateful night transfixed her again. Her skin heated when she recalled how it had felt against her lips. Despite what he claimed, she had one secret she held near and dear. Under her fingertips, his pulse had been out of control while they had kissed. And regardless if it was “just a kiss” or more, she had elicited that response. Not Cecilia and not the mysterious Morgan.

Her clouded eyes drifted upward. Too late she realized that Jordan was returning her stare. Startled out of her trance, her eyes darted away from him and she was thankful Kent and Lisa had eyes for only each other. With alcohol-enforced bravado, her eyes went back to Jordan. Her breath caught as he slowly leaned toward her. Was he going to kiss her? In front of people? Wow, that was easier than she thought. Bring it on!

But instead, he moved his mouth to her ear. His warm breath weaved its headiness around her neck and down the collar of her blouse.

Her nipples tightened inexplicably, and his eyes dropped to her chest.

“Tessa, stop it.” He straightened up and reached for his ice water. He shifted on the floor as if he was uncomfortable.

Annoyed, she faked innocence and stared at him with wide eyes. Okay, not so easy after all, and now, a bit embarrassing.

Jordan wanted to kill her—or kiss her, he couldn’t decide. She had been staring at him for the past five minutes, five minutes too long for his teased and deprived body.
